Engaged in the community, providing learning opportunities
Each year, more than 550 visitors come through SimPORTAL to see and experience firsthand the new training tools and techniques that our student utilize during their simulation skills labs.
SimPortal is invited to participate in community events such as VIP tours for the President of the University of Minnesota, Minnesota State Congress and Senate members, potential donors through the University of Minnesota Foundation, and many guests from around the world.
Providing learning experiences for high school students, medical students, and residents
We host early exposure to health career events in partnership with our Health Careers Center several times a year. The program, Scrubs, Gloves, & Microscopes (SGM), is a series of health careers exploration sessions for high school students currently in grades 9-12. A SGM session gives these high school students the opportunity to briefly experience life in a health profession, or health professional program.
We also participate in several medical school and residency interview days.
The University of Minnesota Medical School's SimPortal serves 550 visitors each year
Connecting with alumni in Hong Kong and Seoul
The third international trip of President Kaler's presidency had strategic goals of rejuvenating alumni chapters in Hong Kong and Seoul, and strengthening partnerships with some of Asia's top institutions of higher education. The traditional connection with Seoul National University is well-known among Koreans, and the strengths of the University of Minnesota align nicely with those of the five institutions he visited during a whirlwind week of activity.
