American College of Surgeons Accredited Education Institutes
SimPORTAL Simulation Center has been accredited since 2007 by the American College of Surgeons Accredited Education Institutes.
The goal is to promote patient safety through the use of simulation, to develop new education and technologies, identify best practices, and promote research and collaboration among the accredited institutes.
We also evaluate the impact of education through long-term follow-up of learners and analyze how to best incorporate aspects of surgical research into surgical education.
Training and educating the next surgical simulation leaders around the world
SimPORTAL had a vision to train and educate the next surgical simulation leaders around the world to promote surgical education and simulation research/development. This vision led to the success stories of several young surgeons who trained here and returned to their home country to establish a simulation program to enhance the educational opportunities of their health care teams.
Following the success of our program, SimPORTAL carved the path with the ACS-AEI to further define the significant components of an accredited fellowship and in 2014, we were the first center in the world to have a fellow be accredited by the ACS-AEI.
American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Simulation Education Network
SimPORTAL Simulation Center has been successfully endorsed since 2014 by the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Simulation Education Network. It is the culmination of consultation among leaders in anesthesia simulation. The Program advocates the promotion of learning through simulation and specifically approves programs of quality in anesthesiology simulation training.
The Simulation Editorial Board oversees the Simulation Education Network that provides training to satisfy the American Board of Anesthesiology’s Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA®) requirements.
