The Surgical Skills Suite in the SimPORTAL (A574 Mayo) contains the equipment needed to fulfill the curriculum requirements of surgical training. Curriculum includes training in open surgical skills, laparoscopic/endoscopic skills and curriculum will soon be added to address microvascular surgical skills.
Equipment includes laparoscopic/endoscopic trainers, TURP trainer, a trainer for the da Vinci Surgical System and computer simulation programs. The suite is equipped with 2 video cameras to provide 3D video capture as well as a PTZ camera for room monitoring and recording of skill testing. Network bi-directional communication is provided to all internal and external resources.
SimPORTAL also includes a small surgical wet lab to allow students and residents to practice various surgical skills. A variety of tissue and supplies are available to achieve curricular goals.
The surgical skills areas of SimPORTAL are accessible 24 hours per day by UCard.
